Ninety Sprague-Dawley rats weighing about 200gm were used for experiment and divided into 1) basic diet fed group (control) and 2) Bactrim administered group. The basic diet was nutritionally composed of adequate solid diet, and each rat was administered orally 15-20gm of basic diet per day. Bactrim(20mg, 200mg) were administered to appropriate group orally per rat per day.
The result obtained from this experiment were as follows:
1. In the Bactrim administered group, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, lymphocytes, monocytes and eosinophils were increased, while hemoglobin and neutrophil decreased significantly.
2: Both kidneys revealed partial disruption of the glomeruli, degeneration and necrosis of the proximal convoluted tubules, hyaline casts in the Bactrim administered group. Particularly morphologic changes were directly proportional to the quantity and duration of Bactrim administration.
